So here we are!! Our first blog for the new website - exciting stuff!
I've been trying out different rendering plugins on the 3D modelling software, trying to get the best possible CG images to be used as product pics for the store.
This is the first rendering of our very first 3D terrain model - a simple road section for an Eldar world....
That looked a little uninspiring! Although the details are clearly visible, the heavy edge lines and lack of shading make it look pretty flat.
So here's a second version, using the Brighter3D plugin to add some colour and shading...
That actually wasn't too bad, but I found the lighting settings a little awkward to work with, and the slightly low resolution to be .... just not quite there!
The next image is a machine-produced rendering from Thingiverse. When you upload an STL file to their site, their systems automatically produce a blue 3D model, on that nice grid pattern floor. The shading and reflections are superb, but my only problem with it is that since the image is automatically produced, you don't get any options for orientation or zoom.
So my goal was to produce an image similar to the blue Thingverse render, but with total control over orientation and zooming.
After some trial and error, I managed to produce the following render using Twilight2 and a custom floor background....
Woohoo - I like it! Slap on some logo watermarks, and we have a winner, I think!
