I recently bought a gorgeous Eldar Wraithknight model for my Warhammer 40,000 army, and since this will be a large centrepiece model for my collection, I decided to model up a detailed custom base for it. Some notes on the process are here, by the way, in a previous blog article.
Anyway, the base has now been printed, assembled and painted, so here are a couple of pics for you....
My space elf wraithknight will be jumping off this wrecked knight carapace, and will be mostly shining white, so I wanted to contrast that with the rather more grimy white of the imperial forces. So this House Taranis colour scheme fit the bill quite nicely, with plenty of weathering effects.
I even went so far as to paint up this "d-cannon" battle damage, in the same style as the time-sphere damage in the Terminator movies! I carefully darkened the surrounding area with gentle stippling, and then painted up the extreme edges in orange, then fiery yellow to show the cooling metal.
Plenty of rust patches, oily mess and heavy scratching completed the look!
